How to recycle plastic bags

Many people believe that plastic bags are in the first place in terms of environmental pollution. But this is a mistake! The first place is occupied by the production of synthetic clothing. But this does not mean at all that we should now forget what the disposal of plastic bags is, because if they are thrown into a landfill, they can decompose for centuries, releasing toxic substances and causing serious damage to the environment.

As their number increases on our planet - and this is ⅙ part of the total amount of garbage - the question is becoming more and more relevant: how to dispose of plastic bags? And is it necessary, given that the disposal process is often even more harmful to the environment than the plastic itself!

Let's look at the most common methods of disposal:

  1. Incineration. This method requires twice as much energy as recycling plastic bags. In addition, during combustion, toxic substances such as dioxins and heavy metals are released into the air, which pollute the atmosphere. And also greenhouse gases: 50% of their total amount in the atmosphere is "provided" by plastic processing plants

  2. Discharge into water. When entering water bodies, under the influence of natural factors, plastic that does not contain the appropriate amount of d2w additive breaks down into small particles of several millimeters in size, which poison drinking water and enter the food chain of fish, animals, birds and, ultimately, humans.

  3. Burying in the ground (composting). Contrary to misconceptions, this method is not suitable for the disposal of ordinary plastic bags, but is applicable only for starch products (from granules certified according to the international standard OK Compost HOME).
